  1. Download the installer and run it.
  2. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway. The installer is not code-signed yet.
  3. Say yes when it offers the small OCR model download if you want to make scans searchable.

  1. Open the .dmg and drag BergPDF to Applications.
  2. The first time, right-click BergPDF and choose Open. macOS Gatekeeper warns about apps that are not notarised yet.

Verify your download

Installers are published with a SHA256SUMS.txt file. Compare the checksum of your download with the line in that file.

About the first start

BergPDF is a young project and its installers are not code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper therefore warn the first time. That is expected: verify the checksum, then continue. If you prefer, build it yourself from the source.

OCR models

Making scans searchable needs two small model files (about 12 MB). The Windows installer offers to download them; otherwise BergPDF offers it the first time you use OCR. They are checked against a fixed checksum and stored in your user folder.

Slow resizing on Windows?

Open Preferences ▸ Graphics to see which graphics adapter is used and to try another drawing API.
